Frequently Asked Questions

Q Why would the HydroPure STS work where other centrifuge systems have failed?
A STS unit in CanadaMost oil/water/solid sludge projects fail using centrifuge systems because the centrifuges and chemical treatments were not designed for such use. Most attempts to treat oily sludges are with OEM centrifuges and common wastewater chemicals that can, at best, produce limited success.

From the beginning, HydroPure has focused only on developing a process to successfully treat the most difficult sludges which were thought impossible to treat in the past. Over ten years of engineering, testing, and proving in difficult field operations have gone into the development of the STS'. HydroPure is successful where other companies have failed because HydroPure has focused only on building the best oily sludge treatment system available.

Q What is the advantage of HydroPure STS verses using an environmental service company?
A In some applications, the systems used by many environmental service companies are adequate. Some applications which contain light oils and low solid contents can be treated effectively by normal centrifuges and chemical treatments.

The HydroPure STS has the ability to treat much more difficult sludges including heavy oils, ultra fine minerals, and abrasive solids which environmental service companies cannot address. These types of sludges are commonly found in heavy oil producing regions.

Another advantage to using the HydroPure STS is that a waste generator can process their waste in-house, thereby utilizing their own infrastructure and labor. Processing waste in-house has an enormous cost advantage over contracting an environmental service company.

Q How can I find out if the HydroPure STS is right for our application?
A STS site visitPotential customer can contact HydroPure to inquire about the use of the STS'. After an initial consultation, a potential customer can send a sample of the sludge to be treated to HydroPure, which will then be tested. If the sample appears to be a good candidate for the STS, then a HydroPure associate will travel to the potential project to gather information and conduct field testing. If all tests are successful, then HydroPure will recommend a STS configuration for the customer. The recommended STS will be guaranteed to work as represented, or the customer can return the STS back to HydroPure.

Q What is the treatment cost per ton to use the HydroPure STS?
A The treatment cost of using the STS per ton varies greatly depending on the sludge being treated. The specific gravity, mineral content, water content, and tightness of emulsion dictate how much the cost would be to separate the sludge. Even in the worst cases, the cost to treat oily sludge using the STS is usually less than the value of the oil recovered, thereby allowing the waste to be processed at no cost.
